Gallery Yamaki Fine Art is proud to present Sadamasa MOTONAGA (1922-2011) from the Gutai Art Association*Susumu KOSHIMIZU(1944-) and Kenji INUMAKI (1943-) from the Mono-ha / School of Things**. Works from these 2 significant movements of different expression method, Gutai and Mono-ha, are exhibited from the perspective of ‘Color and Form’. By contrasting the two trends, which still pack a powerful punch, the exhibit illustrates some of the special characteristics of Japanese postwar art. At the same time, it offers insight into Japanese artists’ unique approaches to the essential elements of artistic practice, such as matter, form, and color, and presents viewers with a new perspective on Japanese contemporary art.

* “Gutai Art Association”: The Japanese artistic movement flourished from late1950s to early 1970s.
** “Mono-ha”: The Japanese artistic movement arose in late 1960s
