Gallery Yamaki Fine Art is proud to announce a solo exhibition of Toshihiro MOTEKI from Sat. October 24 to Sat. November 21, 2015. Toshihiro MOTEKI, born in 1983, Kanagawa, is a young upcoming artist based in Tokyo. This is his 2nd exhibition at Gallery Yamaki Fine Art in 2 years and will present around 13 works.
The ‘HIDDEN’ paintings featured in this exhibition are a series of works created by layering multiple coats of painting medium. In between these layers, images symbolizing parts of the human body and scenery peek through, giving us an impression as though the thick layer is concealing something underneath.
Reflecting on the series, MOTEKI discusses; “In everyday life, humans have hidden their desires, complexions and violence by controlling them. However, it seems that perhaps our generations of 2010s have become out of control of such hidden matters. On the other hand, there are other pressures which do not let us say and do what we think, and accordingly our thoughts are forced to hide. Such may be the reason why many arising problems are becoming more difficult to solve.”
MOTEKI, based on the concept of ‘HIDDEN’, strives to depict the current conflicts between human and society.
