Gallery Yamaki Fine Art is pleased to present a one man exhibition “New Works,” by Seiichi SHIBATA from Sat., 30th May to Sat., 27th June, 2015. This is the artist’s second solo show at Gallery Yamaki Fine Art.
Shibata was born in Kagawa Prefecture in 1984. Having received a master degree from Kyoto City University of Arts in Sculpture, he keeps his creative life based in the Kansai region. With his own unique style such as reliefs bent sharp like paper or his series of piled cut paper, he continues to seek the borders between 3D and 2D works.
For this show Shibata will present his new works based on familiar elements such as people, animals and scenery. Shibata has been keeping his eyes on similar incidents since he was twelve when a series of child murders happened in Kobe, close from where Shibata lived. This incident had a strong influence on his life and perspective and furthermore through living in the same city and also with his transition of having his own family has lead his interest towards the anxiety which peeps through everyday life and his feeling of resentment towards evil. Evil itself cannot be judged or eliminated and to express such an abstract subject in variety, in depth and in 3D, Shibata approaches in diverse mediums; paper cutting, woodcut, papier mache and painting. Bringing together his previous works and his new developing works, this will be a comprehensive and ambitious exhibition.
