Saki KIRIZUKI

Saki KIRIZUKI<A dancer to and fro> Wood print on paper, 90 × 90cm, 2010

Gallery Yamaki Fine Art presents Saki KIRIZUKI’s solo show next month. Kirizuki is a talented young artist who got a student award “Art Award Tokyo 2011”, the prize from which many hot artists have turned out.
Having graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts, she now pursues further experiences. Kirizuki’s work is a print with the same motif repeatedly engraved on a wooden board. What catches our eyes is the grain of wood so clear that it prevents pattern from colouring, or even cuts out a part of the motif, or sometimes decorates that.
This effect of the grain that hides and reveals the motif creates the elusive image of something like a dancer who disappears and reappears again and again to and from a gauze hung on the stage. It seems that her artworks apparently tossed by the natural product, she at the same time collaborates with it.

“I am interested in the space between things. It is not the center of two separated points, but the way something go to and fro in between or something flows there.”(Words by Kirizuki)

It is the artist’s first solo show at our gallery. The exhibition features her latest works which is a series of large wood print as well as earlier ones.
