Jun Arao (1938-2002) started his career as a commercial photographer, taking photos of artworks and artists’ portraits. When he visited Paris, where he had long been attracted, he was smitten by this city and decided to become a free-lance photographer. He kept focusing on daily objects in Paris, people gathering at a night bar, houses on marrow streets, an old man taking a nap, workers having rest and children playing in a park. It seems a careless shot however his works certainly connote the depth of the city. Having lived in Paris as an outsider for all his life, he tried to capture time in the city. Sometimes his own shade is in the photo as if it guided the viewers around the city. Such photos also show time that had long passed in this city.
