Kuniyosi IXIMA “New Works”

Kuniyosi IXIMA “New Works”《urban life》 2016 acrylic on canvas 227.3×162 cm

Ixima graduated in 2003 from Musashino University of Fine Art with a BA in Oil Painting. Since 2006, he has been based in Fukuoka and is an emerging artist, working mainly on paintings, simultaneously developing live paintings and avant-garde performances. This is Ixima’s second solo show at Gallery Yamaki Fine Art and will introduce approximately 10 of his latest acrylic works, painted solidly in pop colors, based on his friends/acquaintances and surroundings. Throughout his career, Ixima has been focusing on painting portraits. His portraits consist of faces taken from found photographs selected randomly from the internet and books, thus are motifs of complete strangers. Working from such motifs which behold no connection and reality to himself, he has been experimenting vigorously how he can bring out the reality of existence. Ixima tells us that through this practice, what he wants to express has become clearer. As Ixima shares, “What I want to express, how to get inspired to do so and how to live my everyday life, has become the core of my works.”, he has come to paint, from inspirations collected from his everyday life, the crossing and come-and-go of the usual and the unusual, reality and fiction. 2 years has passed since his first solo exhibition at Gallery Yamaki Fine Art in 2014. Ixima states that “From the previous periods in which I was seeking to paint the existence of something, now I feel I am trying to capture the phenomenon that something exists.”
