Kuniyosi IXIMA (1980-) is an artist based in Fukuoka, Japan. Having graduated from Musashino University of Fine Art with a BA in Oil Painting, he has worked on paintings with frequent solo and group shows since 2006.
In 2014, having accepted the direct offer from the Dior office in Paris, he created the portrait of Christian Dior for the special exhibition “ESPRIT DIOR” held in Tokyo.
He is also engaged in live paintings, dance performances, and collaborations with performers.
Throughout his career, Ixima has been focusing on painting portraits. His portraits consist of faces taken from found photographs selected randomly from the internet and books, thus are motifs of complete strangers. Working from such motifs which behold no connection and reality to himself, he has been experimenting vigorously how he can bring out the reality of existence. Ixima tells us that through this practice, what he wants to express has become clearer. As Ixima shares, “What I want to express, how to get inspired to do so and how to live my everyday life, has become the core of my works.”, he has come to paint, from inspirations collected from his everyday life, the crossing and come-and-go of the usual and the unusual, reality and fiction.
