Gallery Yamaki Fine Art is excited to announce a solo exhibition of Kuniyosi Ixima. Throughout his career, Kuniyosi has been painting portraits. The subjects in his paintings mostly consist of people’s bodies and faces taken from found photographs, thus are motifs of complete strangers to the artist. As he states, the expressions and atmosphere in his works “may be trying to catch the contentment which lies beneath the emptiness”. Created without adding extra information, Ixima’s paintings, sometimes joyfully and sometimes in sorrow, appear differently to each viewer through connecting and disconnecting with one’s own narrative.
Kuniyosi Ixima (born in Fukuoka ,1980) graduated from Musashino University of Fine Art with a BA in Oil Painting. Since 2006 he has frequently held both solo and group shows mainly in Fukuoka . He works on paintings and simultaneously develops live paintings and avant-garde performances. Through interdisciplinary practices such as installations, sculptures, films and researches in Eastern philosophy, he is an upcoming artist exploring his concept; “What do others see in objects that praise emptiness?”
This is Ixima’s first solo exhibition at Gallery Yamaki Fine Art and will primarily present his recent works from 2013 and 2014. We sincerely hope all visitors to enjoy this opportunity.
