Gallery Yamaki Fine Art is pleased to announce the GYFA show “Resonance.” This exhibition features the works of three contemporary artists who deepen their original thinking through the medium of photography. They base their practice on very different thoughts and processes from each other. However, when we look at their pieces with a comparative perspective, we can see resonant sensibilities in their approach to the presence and essence of their subjects, making full use of light and shadow, which are inherent in photographic expression. This show spotlights the resonance that emerges between the works of the three artists and examines the differences in the resulting form and gaze.

Tomoka Ueno, based in Kyoto, shares intimate moments with her subjects in order to represent the movement of their hearts and minds, carefully capturing the light that shines on their bodies. By superimposing the momentary changes of light and the subtleties of the human heart, she attempts to manifest the powerful vitality of human identity, sexuality, and gender through her photography. On the other hand, Joerg Lehmann, a commercial photographer based in Paris, portrays sculptures of the human body illuminated by moonlight, which he documents in meticulously planned compositions. The delicate contrast between light and shadow creates a lyricism that evokes a scene from a movie, further emphasizing the figurative beauty of the sculpture. Yukio Fujimoto, a multi-artist, adopts the photogram technique to visualize the motion and trajectory of a top, inspired by Marcel Duchamp’s optical experiments. He translates the motion of the falling top into illusory traces of light, exploring his own thoughts on vision and dimension. We hope you will enjoy the resonance of these three artists, which can only be seen at Gallery Yamaki Fine Art.
