Asuka NAKAYAMA
Sat. Nov7, 2026 – Sat. Dec 12, 2026
Gallery Yamaki Fine Art is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Asuka Nakayama. Marking her seventh solo presentation at our gallery, this exhibition features an entirely new body of work.
Asuka Nakayama is a visual artist whose reputation continues to grow through her distinct imaginative vision and incisive perspective. Her practice has been recognized with numerous accolades, beginning with the digmeout Award at “via art OSAKA 2008,” followed by the Mayor’s Award at the Kyoto City University of Arts Exhibition in 2010, the Kyoto Shimbun Award at the “Kyoto Art for Tomorrow” in 2021, and the Fumiko Kametaka Sekiso-sha Award in 2024. Expanding her international reach, she was also invited to participate in the Japan-Korea Cultural Exchange Memorial Exhibition in 2025.

Throughout her career, Nakayama has consistently turned her gaze toward the paradoxical relationship between humanity and nature—a dynamic in which human beings coexist with nature while simultaneously seeking to control it for their own convenience. In her new painting, entangle, Nakayama renders an intricate and strangely captivating landscape where interior spaces merge with the natural world. Plant life invades human-ordered domestic environments, intertwining across boundaries. This scene reflects not only the relationship between nature and humanity, but also the intricacies of living alongside others.
For Nakayama, daily life and the growth of her children are inextricably bound to her artistic practice. Living alongside beings with minds and sensibilities distinct from her own, and navigating an unpredictable everyday reality where mutual influence shapes their shared life, profoundly informs the world she depicts.
The word “entangle” implies being intertwined, meshed, or drawn into something. Engaging with another may not be a matter of bending them to one’s will, but rather a process of undergoing transformation oneself. Navigating closeness and distance, togetherness and the preservation of individual boundaries, this constantly shifting equilibrium resonates not only within family life, but also in our relationships with nature and society at large.
Through these landscapes where disparate entities entwine, our relationship with the world around us may come into clearer focus. We cordially invite you to experience the rich and evocative visual world of Asuka Nakayama at our gallery, and to explore it from your own perspective.
