「Joerg LEHMANN & LEE Min-Ho」

Sat. Jul 27, 2019 - Fri. Aug 23, 2019

Gallery Yamaki Fine Art announces to have a two artists show; Joerg Lehmann and Lee Minho, both of whom create their works with photography. They, apparently their techniques look contrary, they share the conscious way of treating reality using photographs. Their expression does not remain within just the question towards the ambiguity of reality that photographs have. They both take in the mythic motifs in order to mirror our modern rea story by retelling the myths.

Joerg Lehmann take photos of sculptures in the moonlight, without flashing light. Those dramatically composed photos capture the facial or physical expression of sculptures as if they were real humans. As a result, the viewers see the photographed as having their feelings or lives, which replace the historical contexts of contemporary stories. A storyteller he is, everything in the frame is calculated to sublimate the photography to the perfection of tablau. By making the most of the real lighting and controlling the work as the whole, the artist realizes the complex image on which the real and the unreal are interlaced. It is the expression that Lehmann can achieve as a skilled photographer.

Lee Minho recently creates picturesque photography with Thread as its main subject. Thread motif has been inspired by Ariadne from Greek myth, but her ball of thread strayed away from the traditional imagery and deployed in a natural scenery or in a building that are synthesized many times. The wandering thread of Ariadne in the super realistic image implies us who are used to Internet surfing or flood of the advertisement. The sur-realism of Lee Minho could only be possible at the time when we can freely manipulate images and it doubly expresses the problems of the reality in this modern era on her works. Photographs are the visual expression and at the same time linguistic media that treats the reality. This has made a lot of artists pursue their expression and create challenging works.

The works by two artists look different but when looked carefully, the viewer can sense their common thinking underlying works. We look forward to seeing you at our gallery.
